The 1962 building houses the Department of Physical Sciences, part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, with programs in chemistry, physics, geology, astronomy, and oceanography. The extensive renovation and modernization support current and future programs by upgrading classrooms, offices, and research labs. A 24,000-sf addition was constructed to provide additional space and meet programmatic needs.
The building is a key part of the campus quadrangle, and the site development, pedestrian flow, and landscaping enhance the surrounding campus areas. The site is small and logistically challenging, so creating a safe space for students, faculty, and staff required careful planning and clear communication.
