Yale University selected Dimeo to partner with the esteemed Dean of Architecture Robert Stern and his firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects to construct the University’s first residential colleges in over a half century. The completed project allowed for expanded admission and reduction of crowding in the existing residential colleges, all while increasing enrollment by 15 percent, to approximately 6,000 students.
The project consisted of two residential colleges with 452 beds each, totaling approximately 550,000 sf. The site is bound by Prospect Street, Sachem Street and the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. The buildings include two dining halls and one common kitchen, seven courtyards (2 above grade), two Head of College Houses, Deans and Fellows apartments, Head of College & Dean office suites, seminar rooms, libraries, computer rooms, faculty offices, Fellows’ rooms, common rooms, basketball court, dance theater, cafes and social and recreational spaces.
The project was completed in time for occupancy for the Fall 2017 semester and was awarded the AGC CT 2018 Build Connecticut Award in the CM/GC Large New Construction category.
