The Early Years
1930
At the onset of the Great Depression, Joseph Dimeo closes stone quarry business and forms Dimeo Construction Company.
1930-40's
Organization operates as local builder of residential, smaller commercial and manufacturing projects in Providence area.
2nd generation of management takes hold.
1948
Joseph's son, Joe Jr., graduates from Brown University and enters Navy and joins Dimeo in 1951.
The Formative Years
Tom Dimeo graduates from Brown in 1952 and enters Navy then joins Dimeo in 1955.
Organization builds such assignments as new Raytheon Underwater Submarine Warfare facility in Portsmouth and local projects for growing hospitals and jewelry manufacturer's.
Tom returns from service during Korean War and recognizes importance of building an organization that can support greater growth.
1960'S
Organization begins to branch out across markets and bid larger assignments; new assignments include the new Community College of Rhode Island and Warwick and Rhode Island Malls.
Dimeo awarded major vertical expansion to Dartmouth Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH.
1970's
Beginning of 40+ year relationship with Brown University including: List Art Center, the new Sciences Library and over 25 other major assignments. Construction Management delivery method CM begins to emerge as acceptable form of project delivery. Dimeo is at the forefront of this industry shift.
1971
Dimeo ranked among ENR's Top 400 Contractors and has remained within the ENR Top 400 every year thereafter.
1972
Dimeo completes the new Providence Civic Center.
In the Mid 70's, Dimeo begins 12 year relationship of service to Digital Equipment involving over 1.8 million sf feet of construction in Massachusetts. Dimeo builds for Deaconess Hospital - School of Nursing, Parking garage and Clinical labs projects. Dimeo constructs new 525,000 sf UMASS Boston classroom expansion. Firm opens MA office in Wellesley.

1980
A young project engineer by name of Steve Rutledge joins firm.
1983
Dimeo awarded new Atrium Pavilion at Boston University Medical Center. Dimeo converts Carling Brewery into corporate headquarters and builds new manufacturing facilities for Prime Computer.
1985
Dimeo completes gut renovation to John Hancock Clarendon Building.
3rd generation of family management begins. Brad Dimeo joins firm.
1986
Dimeo moves its Boston office into Old City Hall. Dimeo begins 20 year relationship with Hasbro involving over 500,000 sf of corporate office construction.
Dimeo completes several major assignments for Harvard University including; Radcliffe Quadrangle, Gund, McKinlock and Mather Halls.
1987
Organization embarks on growing presence in CT with full service office in Hartford. Build 1.0+million sf DOT Headquarters in Boston in "quad venture" with Volpe, O'Connell & Gutierrez, (VDOG).
Emergence of The Next Generation
1991
Dimeo awarded first project at Yale University - Joseph Slifka Center. This project becomes the first of an ongoing and continuous relationship with over 25 completed projects.
1991-1992
Industry experiences worst downturn since Great Depression.
1992
Steve Rutledge appointed Vice President of Operations. Emergence of next generation of project managers and superintendents that would lead company moving forward.
1994
Brad Dimeo appointed President of Dimeo Construction Company.
Organization completes major athletic expansion to Brandeis University.
Dimeo awarded major expansion and occupied renovation to Tisch Library at Tufts University.
Dimeo/Trinity Financial complete Davenport Commons for Northeastern University.
1997
Dimeo awarded Yale University, Linsly Chittenden renovation assignment and new School of Arts and Drama.
1999
Dimeo awarded new 375,000 sf New Balance Corporate Headquarters expansion in Brighton MA.
Second Century Dimeo
2000
Dimeo completes renovation to Independence Wharf in Boston.
2001
Dimeo awarded major test center assignment with FM Global. Four years later, Dimeo awarded second major assignment with FM Global, new 280,000 sf Corporate Headquarters.
2001-2004
Dimeo embarks on new assignments with Trinity Financial including: Maverick Gardens, East Boston; Newport Heights, Newport RI; and Quinnipiac Terrace, New Haven CT.
2003
Dimeo completes first LEED accredited Museum in US - Mark Twain Visitor Education Center. Dimeo first CM in New England admitted into the OSHA CHASE Safety program at Blue Level.
2004
Firm utilizes BIM coordination on Yale Trumbull Residential College.
2006
Dimeo awarded new 400,000 sf Newton North High School.
2007
2.5 million sf Natick Collection and Nouvelle residences built. Dimeo completes 380,000 sf Avenir residences on Canal Street in Boston over MBTA's North Station.
2009
Dimeo ranked among Top 50 CMs and Top 100 Contractors by ENR.
Dimeo surpasses $1.0 billion in LEED accredited assignments.
Approaching 90 years
2010
Dimeo surpasses $3.2 billion in BIM coordinated assignments.
Dimeo awarded new School of Management at Yale University, working with Foster + Partners/Gruzen Samton.
Dimeo awarded 2nd major residential assignment on UMASS-Amherst campus, new 1600 bed Commonwealth Honors Academic and Residences.
Completed replication of historic Ocean House Hotel & Luxury Residential Suites in Watch Hill, RI. The Ocean House is ranked #4 of Ten Best Summer Hotels on the Water in Coastal Living Magazine.
2012
Dimeo completes new 570,000 sf Gateway Community College. Project spans two city blocks at major entrance to New Haven, CT. Dimeo team grows existing DAS M/W/DBE list from 130 to 400+ Certified Contractors.
Dimeo awarded Providence Public Library event space renovations in Providence, RI. This space is used for community events, corporate events as well as weddings and other social functions.
2013
Dimeo awarded 10th project with Women & Infant’s Hospital, Emergency Room Renovations. Dimeo completes Lincoln Way and Jackson Gardens, 45 units of low rise residential units in the Central Square neighborhood of Cambridge.
2014
Construction is completed on new Visual and Performing Arts Center in Danbury, CT at Western Connecticut State University. Project achieved LEED silver certification.
2015
New corporate offices and structured parking garage for Oracle's campus in Burlington, MA and parking with Spagnolo Gisness & Associates. The Duxbury Middle-High School project construction comes to a close with a total of 558,000 man hours over the course of a 3-year project.
2016
In the midst of the blizzards of 2015, Dimeo was able to complete construction of the HUB25 Residences in Boston, MA. The residences are situated directly adjacent to the JFK Redline Transit Station.
2017
Dimeo partners with the esteemed Dean of Architecture Robert Stern and his firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects to construct Yale University's first residential colleges in over a half century, Benjamin Franklin and Pauli Murray Residential Colleges.
2018
New Ruane Friar Development Center marks the completion of our fifth major project on the Providence College Campus.
2018
Dimeo completes new Citizens Bank Corporate Campus in Johnston, RI and the Isenberg School of Management Business Innovation Hub at the UMASS-Amherst campus.
2019
Dimeo relocates Boston office to Black Falcon Pier. Construction comes to a close on the LEED Platinum Lowell Trial Court, designed by Finegold Alexander Architects. The courthouse is the first new state courthouse to achieve this certification in the United States.
2020
In March, the COVID 19 global pandemic reached a peak and Dimeo was selected to build three temporary hospital sites across the state. This was the ultimate fast track assignment lasting 21 days from award to completion. It required 24 hour per day, 7 day per week continuous operation of design and construction collaboration.
2021
Dimeo awarded Garden City Elementary School and proudly continues its impact on building 21st century k-12 facilities in the region.
2022
Dimeo completes renovations at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The renovations included 50 individual phases of work and are the first the hospital has undergone since the building was built in 1994.
2023
Dimeo completes the core and shell of the Winstanley Enterprises 10-story life sciences building at 101 College Street in New Haven, CT and begins the fit-out work for four tenants.
2024
Dimeo awarded Westhill High School in Stamford, CT.
